Epoxy paint provides a beautiful array of colors, pigments, and hues to your new floor. Our team at Epoxy Floors Vancouver uses three types of epoxy paint with different ingredients.
100 Percent Solid:
This is basically pure epoxy. Usually, we only use this in cases when we need to ensure an ultra-tough, long-lasting finish. One hundred percent solid epoxy takes a high degree of precision to install because it hardens so quickly. It’s more expensive than the other paints on this list, but it’s worth it if you’re floor is going to take a beating.
With water-based epoxy, we mix pure epoxy with water in a 40/60 ratio. It’s less expensive than pure epoxy but not quite as durable. Since it cures more slowly, we can add decorations and pigments to it. Water-based epoxy is perfect for busy areas since its fumes are safe to breathe.
Solvent-based epoxy is similar to the water-based variety, but it uses a chemical solvent instead of water. It gives off potent fumes so you should not be in the area during installation.

A slippery floor is a dangerous floor. Slips can easily lead to serious injuries, broken bones, and concussions. When we get a call from a customer who’s considering epoxy, they often want to know if it’s slippery. Although epoxy can look sleek and shiny, it’s not any more slippery than traditional types of flooring. Plus, we can add extra non-slip additives for extra traction and safety.
How important is a non-slip additive?
Non-slip additives to epoxy are an option, but not always necessary. There are a few situations where non-slip additives can be immensely helpful, though! If you plan to use your garage as a workshop, then it may be wise to make it as slip-free as possible. Spills of oil, cleaning chemicals, anti-freeze, and other liquids can pose a serious threat that non-slip additives can help to mitigate.
Climate is another important factor. Vancouver’s weather is notoriously rainy and snowy. All that precipitation can make your garage floor slippery and dangerous. Non-slip floor coatings can make your floor safer to walk on during inclement weather.
